That was unexpected…

January 29, 2009

Well, well!

There’s been an undue amount of silence and lack of planning on my part over the last 2.5 weeks so I’ll explain and post a half baked excuse.

I was part of the 50% of pandemic studios brisbane that became redundant two and a bit weeks ago when the studio began doing something (I’m actually not allowed to say what it’s doing, but there’s rumors about some more true than others).

Anyway! All focus on trip planning became superceeded by one week of lazing about, doing nothing but playing games (I should have been planning my trip but my PhD in procrastination took to the fore).

Anyway, I’m now at my desk at Krome having succesfully landed a job of sizable awesomeness in record time and now I’m getting back to the planning. Only 6 weeks to go.  So here’s the three definates:

1. Brisbanites: March 15, Newfarm park (down near the powerhouse) there’ll be a bbq. Bring something to eat/drink  etc. Starting about 2pm.  (I’ll make arrangements and actively contact many people for this later tonight).

2. Melbourne! I’ll be in melbourne mid week, probably march 17 onwards until friday.

3. San Francisco! Arriving the weekend before GDC, staying there till the confrence ends in the vicinity of the confrence centre.

More details to come…

Getting Started

January 7, 2009

I’ve decided to make a mountain out of the proverbial molehill and keep a public diary as such of my upcoming trip.

Instead of just taking a few weeks off and sitting around sleeping in and all that like I usually do when I’m taking leave…  I’m going to try and meet face to face with every person I’ve ever known or worked with related to the games industry who currently resides in Brisbane, Melbourne, America, Canada and… well there may be more places.

So far the only well known part of the plan is that I’ll be attending the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco (is anyone else going?). Apart from the conference there is a very loose plan of where I’ll be and when (just be warned it’s going to change a lot):

  1. A starting party/barbecue in Brisbane for any who enjoy that manner of thing  (around 14th – 15th March)
  2. Several days to catch up with the Brisbane crowd and get myself ready (around 16th-18th March)
  3. Possibly few days in Melbourne
  4. Game Developers Conference in San Francisco (23-27th of March)
  5. Possibly a few more days in San Fran, honestly haven’t decided
  6. Probably a week or a little more in LA (commencing somewhere around the 30th of March)
  7. Off to Canada! Not sure where I need to go in Canada first… Edmonton will be on the itinerary at one point or another

I’ll probably update this blog infrequently during the planning and leading up to the trip itself, but more often once I’m actually out there doing stuff.
